Grimsby Town FC match update

Wes Thomas scored his 10th goal of the season as Grimsby beat 10-man Yeovil 3-1.

The result leaves Michael Jolley’s men eight points off the League Two play-offs, while Yeovil remain 21st.

Grimsby made the perfect start when Luke Hendrie’s cross was met by Thomas to head home inside nine minutes.

The away side doubled their advantage in the 35th minute when Adel Gafaiti diverted Elliot Embleton’s driven cross into his own net.

Yeovil nearly halved the deficit, but James McKeown reacted brilliantly to save Alex Fisher’s cross-range effort with his legs.

Thomas had a golden chance to make it three as he ran through from the halfway line but could only fire over.

Yeovil looked for a way back into the game as both Rhys Browne and Alex Dobre saw shots parried by McKeown.

Craig Alcock was then dismissed for the home side, receiving a second yellow card after colliding with Jordan Cook as Grimsby looked to counter.

Hendrie and Embleton had chances to increase the lead before substitute Kristian Dennis lobbed Stuart Nelson three minutes from time to make it 3-0.

Fisher headed in a late consolation for Yeovil as the clock ticked into stoppage time.
