Eleanor Street fire

Humberside Fire and Rescue crews attend a fire on Eleanor Street after yet another arson attack.

It is believed that atleast four crews from Humberside Fire and Rescue’s green watch are currently battling a blaze on Grimsby’s Eleanor Street.

The buildings, which are former education offices are a constant target for arson attacks. They are due to be converted into flats and shops in the near future.

Police called to help direct traffic

Humberside Police have also been called to help direct traffic around the busy road while the incident is dealt with.

A call was received at 2.58pm and crews arrived at 3.06pm, also assistance from police had been requested to direct the traffic

Eleanor Street was blocked off by police and an eyewitness said she saw people entering the premises through a hole in the fence.

42 Deliberate attacks in 5 years

It is thought that there has been at least 42 deliberate attacks on the historic Eleanor Street buildings in the past five years.

An officer has told people at the cordon that it has been put in place as there are fears the fire may spread throughout the building.
