Dour goalless draw at Grimsby

Northampton’s winning run in League Two came to an end as they played out a dour goalless draw at Grimsby.

Strong winds around Blundell Park severely affected the game as a spectacle, with Luke Hendrie’s header back to goalkeeper James McKeown almost handing Northampton the lead as it drifted wide early on.

Jake Hessenthaler and Wes Thomas both went close with efforts from distance for the hosts as both sides struggled to get to grips with the conditions.

Things did not get any easier in the second half as the rain arrived, with Northampton’s Sam Hoskins heading a decent opportunity wide after David Buchanan got a cross away from the left.

Elliot Embleton then looked to make the most of the conditions for Grimsby as he tried his luck from 25 yards, but once again his effort drifted wide.

Sam Foley looked to catch McKeown off his line from halfway, but the Grimsby goalkeeper managed to stretch enough to prevent the ball looping over his head as the points were shared.
