Sixth Form Sports Tournaments Raise More Than £300 For Cancer Charity

A Charity Football Match and Netball Tournament organised by Sixth Form College students raised more than £300 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Year 12 students from Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College snatched victory in both disciplines from Year 13 students, in what were highly competitive matches.

The first goal of the Charity Football Match came from a delightful run and finish by Year 13 student Chris Fawcett. The Year 12 equaliser saw Matthew Stone capitalise on a spill by Year 13 keeper Sam Pearson.

An exceptionally keenly fought contest was narrowly won by the Year 12’s  2-1, with a great passing move being finished with a low shot to the keeper’s right by Josh Scott.

Four teams of girls and boys took part in the Netball Tournament, including the Year 13 Team, who were the ones to beat. A huge crowd saw the competitive matches played with excellent pace and some outstanding interception. Very reliable shooting from Year 12 Aaron Lewis helped his team win every game and the overall tournament, narrowly snatching the title from the Year 13 Team.

Student Jemima Cook said:

The Charity Netball Tournament was an honour to organise and we enjoyed all the work put in. The turnouts and games brought excitement to the college and a positive distraction from the stress of forthcoming exams. This is something we would love to participate in again, and raise money for such a worthy cause.
