Lincs Inspire to Support Dementia Action Week 2019

AS part of the Alzheimer’s Society’s national Dementia Action Week 2019, running from May 20 to May 26, Lincs Inspire will be helping to raise awareness of dementia amongst staff.

Lincs Inspire Library staff will be given the opportunity to develop a greater understanding about dementia through a series of dementia friends awareness sessions, which will eventually be rolled out across the whole of Lincs Inspire.

The sessions, delivered by ‘Dementia Champions’, will encourage other staff to make a positive difference to people living with dementia by giving them information about the personal impact of dementia, and what they can do to help.

Lincs Inspire Libraries and Archives services will also be supporting Dementia Action Week by hosting a reminiscence morning on Friday, May 24, 10am until 12 noon at Top Town Market.  Photographs, books and materials from the Libraries and Archives collections will provide the opportunity for people to reminisce against a backdrop of local historical schools photographs on display in the Market.

Jenny Cartwright, Libraries Development Officer, Lincs Inspire said:

We are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of the local community and Dementia Action Week gives us the opportunity to showcase some of the more specialised resources we have in our collections, which can support people who are affected by dementia. We host a number of Memory Lane groups in our libraries, actively encouraging people to share their memories and we also give talks to local groups and organisations using local history photographs which can help to trigger conversations and memories.
