Three key attractions in Cleethorpes are moving new hands

The management of the Discovery Centre, paddling pool and sandpit had been the subject of a tender process, and Cabinet agreed in December 2018 to hand over the keys to the successful bidder in the new year.

Your Community Hub a Community Interest Company (CIC), will take over the running of the three attractions and have exciting plans for their future. They currently run other community assets in North East Lincolnshire, The Gingerbread House formerly known as Humberston Library and Tea in the Park which includes a newly opened Forest School formerly known as Grant Thorold Library.

They have successfully managed to keep both library provisions operating by ring fencing profits and are now utilising the same business model to support these three key attractions to Cleethorpes.

Cllr John Fenty, new Cabinet member for assets, said:

This is a great result and I’ve been impressed by the way Nathan has worked hard to put together a sound business case. This is exactly what we want to see more of – members of the community stepping up and taking on facilities that are no longer sustainable for the Council to run. I’d like to wish him luck in this new venture.

This is a huge and exciting time for us, lots of hard work has gone into the business model and we have received tremendous support from local businesses and the local authority. The Discovery Centre was opened in 1997 and currently offers space for art exhibitions, as well as hosting two cafes and the ABP Observatory. We would encourage all potential community groups that wish to utilise space and hold exhibitions to get in touch, the potential is endless.
