Grimsby man carrying toy sword arrested for drugs offences

Officers were called last night by a member of the public who said they had seen a man walking around Grimsby carrying a sword.

Humberside Police attended quickly and found the man on Little Coates Road only to find that he was carrying a plastic pirate sword which was popping out from under his jacket.

He was arrested on suspicion of a section 5 public order offence. On further inspection he was also found to be carrying an amount of ‘Spice’ which was seized.

He was then arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug with the intent to supply.

The 35-year-old man is currently in custody.

PC Paul Walker said:

I have reminded this man that this was a very stupid thing to do. It wasn’t obvious at all to the public that this item was a toy, as it was hidden under his coat with only the handle showing. It was therefore understandable that the public became concerned as there was no way of knowing whether it was real or not, and potentially a dangerous weapon. We responded appropriately to the call and quickly arrested the individual. At it happened he was also in possession of a quantity of drugs so we also arrested him for that.
