By JOIN Lincs Inspire Libraries and Archives at Grimsby Town Hall on Friday, 21st June, 10am to 4pm for “Keep the Home Fires Burning”, an exhibition examining life on the Home Front in North East Lincolnshire during the First World War.
The exhibition will provide the opportunity for members of the public to view documents, photographs and artefacts relating to the Home Front during the Great War. The display will include items connected with many aspects of life on the Home Front, including the Grimsby Shell Factory, Tickler’s Jam and the role of Immingham Dock. The exhibition will also examine the way in which the dead were commemorated after the war and will include material relating to the Grimsby Cenotaph, the Chums Memorial in Grimsby Minster, the McAulay Memorial Cottages at Aylesby and the Humberston Roll of Honour.
There will also be a chance to see items from Grimsby Central Library’s outstanding collection of records relating to the Ruhleben Internment Camp, where many Grimsby trawlermen were held for the duration of the war.
Adrian Wilkinson, Archivist, Lincs Inspire said: “June 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, which officially brought the Great War to a close. To mark the centenary the public will have a chance to see many fascinating and unique items connected with story of the war on the Home Front.”
