People who gossip just want to be friends.
Gossip is not about being nasty behind someone’s back it is used to build relationships according to a new study.
Over 100 people were asked by scientists to rate their reasons for gossiping at work and in private. It was found that the main reason for gossiping was to check if information about the chosen target was true.
This was followed by wanting to acquire new information about them. They found that even narcissistic people use gossip in a constructive way. Good gossip is essential for making the social world go round. Bad gossiping like spreading negative things about someone, can serve a purpose to let you know people you should be careful about, but the problems come in because it is open to abuse.
