National Lottery funded Townscape Heritage grant scheme open for applications to enhance our historic buildings in Cleethorpes

Discover Cleethorpes Heritage is a four year programme which is supported by £1.9m from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and £1m from North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC).

Part of this programme is the Townscape Heritage grant scheme which is open to owners or occupiers of historic properties within the Cleethorpes Central Seafront Conservation Area.

Thanks to National Lottery players, the owners or occupiers of these properties can apply for a grant to support with conservation repairs and to restore historic features, such as shop fronts, iron balconies and windows. This grant provides up to 80% of eligible repair work.

The Cleethorpes Central Seafront Conservation Area incorporates 78 Georgian and Victorian buildings located on Alexandra Road and Sea View Street and these are eligible to access funding through the scheme.

The scheme aims to continue the ongoing regeneration of this area of the resort and to bring these historic buildings back to their former glory and highlight the importance of our architectural history in the area for visitors of all ages.

Through a series of organised workshops and presentations, there is also an opportunity for students, building owners and contractors to learn traditional building conservation skills.

It is hoped that these planned activities will complement the physical works being undertaken. There will also be the chance for local people to learn about the history of the area through local exhibitions, guided tours and volunteering opportunities, such as the Heritage Open Days.

Cllr Callum Procter, Cabinet member for heritage said: “This is a really important scheme for Cleethorpes. Our aim as a council is to increase visitor numbers.  It’s really important that we help bring these amazing buildings back to their former glory, and preserve some of the history for our residents and visitors of the future.”
