Asda put labels on cooking oils to warn of the dangers of using them to try to get a better tan.
When we buy cooking oils from the supermarket it is usually because we need it for cooking.
But new research by Asda reveals that a lot of people are not using cooking oils for cooking.
Worrying results revealed that a fifth of people uses cooking oils like vegetable or olive oil to help them tan in the sun.
To highlight the shocking findings and in order to warn people of the harmful practice of using cooking oils to try to get a better tan.
Asda has put a health warning on their cooking oils that say Strictly not for tanning.
Their research also found that 34% of those surveyed purposely avoided suncream in order to tan faster. And 79% of people suffered sunburn. Worryingly 29% said they weren’t bothered about being sunburnt.
Cooking oils do not provide any protection against UV light, leaving people vulnerable to sun damage or much worse.
The NHS says that repeated sunburn, which you are at risk of if you do not use suncream increases the risk of melanoma (skin cancer) in people of all ages.
