Youngs Seafood, Grimsby’s largest private employer, have been bought by another food company

The deal announced on 02 July confirmed that Youngs has been bought by Karo Food Group.  Karro, owned by CapVest since March 2017, is known mainly as a pork processing company.  Both companies supply the UK’s major supermarkets with own brand products, whilst Youngs also has a strong branded presence of its own on retail shelves.

A spokesperson said it would “continue to focus on providing great food to customers across pork and seafood”

Di Walker, the group’s chief executive officer, said: “Today’s agreement will provide both businesses with the opportunity to further develop and broaden our relationships with our key partners.”

The two companies will operate as separate businesses within the combined group, and will employ more than 5,000 staff in total, 2,000 of which are in Grimsby.

Mary Vickers moved to North East Lincolnshire in 2010, from the Wiltshire/Hampshire border, to become Urban and Industrial Chaplain NELincs. Made redundant in 2017, she's maintained many of her connections within the business, faith, and other local communities. She's also decided to stay here rather than return to either the south or her husband's native Yorkshire, so that she can continue to enjoy and help promote the positives of NELincs.
