Nottinghamshire and England under 19 player Nick Kimber has been signed by Cleethorpes Cricket Club and was set to make his debut on Saturday when Aston Hall visit Chichester Road in the 4 Probate & Wills ECB Yorkshire South Premier League. However, permission for him to play was withdrawn due, it’s assumed, to Nottinghamshire being involved in a t20 tournament at Northampton on Friday.
Nick is the youngest of three cricketing brothers from the Lincoln area. Louis Kimber joined the Meggies at the beginning of the season, and made his debut ironically against Aston Hall with a century. The third Kimber, James, plays for Bracebridge in the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League and has represented Lincolnshire.
The 18 year old Nick Kimber is a quick bowler who was called up into the England under 19 squad last season after some impressive performances with Nottinghamshire 2nd XI, where he played alongside Cleethorpes Jordan Cook.
This season his cricket has been limited until the completion of school exams. However, he has made two appearances for Nottinghamshire, taking 4-36 against Northants 2nds, and last month he returned figures of 2-28 against Leicestershire seconds.
Although both Kimbers were included in the selected XI for this Saturday’s game against Aston Hall, the late news of Nottinghamshire not permitting Nick to play as weakened a Meggies side already without Alex Osmond (pictured) who is away on holiday.
Cleethorpes will be hoping to complete a double over Aston Hall after opening the season with a 42 run victory at Green Lane in April. Saturday’s visitors however will arrive full of confidence after turning the form book upside down last week. They dismissed high flyers Sheffield Collegiate for 154 before going on to win by 2 wickets.
Pakistan Test player Usman Salah-ud-Din was the star of that victory, making an undefeated 68, which was the 4th time he has passed 50 this season. He will prove to be a danger man for the Meggies as will off spinner Usman Muzaffar who claimed 5 -73 when the two sides last met.
