Have your say on Council tax support

North East Lincolnshire Council is consulting with residents about the financial support for Council tax.

The consultation will seek the views of residents on the level of support offered to low-income households with council tax bills.

The consultation will help the local authority to make decisions about the future of the financial assistance and who is eligible to receive it, and in particular, the level of relief offered to those in receipt of benefits, including disability benefits, and those in low paid work. The consultation will also ask whether the hardship scheme support fund should be continued to help those claimants suffering from extreme and unavoidable financial difficulties .

The statutory support available for pension age claimants is not affected by these proposals and would remain unchanged.

Councillor Stan Shreeve, Cabinet member for Finance and Resources said: “The Council’s offer of financial support for low-income households paying council tax helps many in our communities. This consultation will help us to decide on the future of the support, and how it should be shaped going forward.”
