North East Lincolnshire has the biggest rise in drug deaths in Humberside.

Latest figures have revealed that North East Lincolnshire has had the biggest rise in drug deaths in Humberside. Cuts to support agencies budgets by nearly half are being blamed for the shocking toll of drug-related deaths.

Between 2016 and last year there were 35 deaths due to drugs and most were a result of heroin and cocaine uses. This is almost double the total for 2013 to 2015 when there were 16 deaths.

Office for National Statistics figures shows the Grimsby area exceeded the rates of deaths for Hull were 54 died over the same period. Campaigners believe that cuts to council budgets have led to a dramatic decline in support for drug addicts.

It was found by the UK Addiction Treatment group that only around half the money spent on supporting addicts and tackling the problem in North East Lincolnshire six years ago, is now being spent on preventing drug deaths.

Drugs and alcohol charity Addaction treat many addicts in the Grimsby area every day.

UKAT urges anyone in need of help for addiction recovery to call 0808 252 6766 or call the Frank drugs helpline on 0300 123 6600.
