Hero chases armed gang with a pitchfork after armed gang stabbed his neighbour.

A man chased an armed gang in his boxer shorts after his neighbour was stabbed by one of them. He was hailed a hero after helping police track down one of the men who was armed with a knife.

He was only dressed in his dressing gown and boxer shorts he was armed with his pitchfork when he chased the gang on to Cleethorpe Road while talking to the police on his phone.

Three men had called at the home in Grafton Street of a 51-year-old man demanding money at around 11 pm Sunday. He refused and was threatened with a large blade and fought with one of the gang.

As he grabbed at the blade it slashed his thumb. He called at his neighbour Martin’s door asking for help he grabbed the fork and ran after them. Another neighbour treated the victim with first aid.

A large number of officers attended the incident. They arrested a man on Park View on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and possession of cannabis. He has been released pending further investigation.
