Doncaster seafood eatery and Grimsby fish acknowledged for excellence

Clam & Cork, in Doncaster’s Fish Market, is one of 14 new Yorkshire entries in the 2019 edition of the Good Food Guide

Run by ex-miner turned fishmonger Michael Berry, the eatery opened in Spring 2018, in a former wet fish stand.  Seafood and prosecco are the main selling points.  Customers sit on high stools around the edge of the venue, and their food is served onto places set on the stainless steel counter.  Fish and seafood arrives daily, a large proportion of which is sourced in Grimsby.

The Good Food Guide, is an annual guidebook to the best restaurants in the UK.  It has been going nearly 70 years.  This year it lists 1,200 of the top places to eat.

Elizabeth Carter, the editor says that Clam & Cork is

the best fun you can have with your hat and scarf on.

Guardian food writer Jay Rayner was impressed when he visited to review it in October last year.

Mary Vickers moved to North East Lincolnshire in 2010, from the Wiltshire/Hampshire border, to become Urban and Industrial Chaplain NELincs. Made redundant in 2017, she's maintained many of her connections within the business, faith, and other local communities. She's also decided to stay here rather than return to either the south or her husband's native Yorkshire, so that she can continue to enjoy and help promote the positives of NELincs.
