£64,000 fiddled by benefit cheat over three years.

Kelly Ledger 40, from Scunthorpe, was spared from going to prison because she has children. She fiddled nearly £64,000 from taxpayers for over three years. It is believed that her partner had gambling debts and she did not declare that after a separation they were back together and he was working. She carried on claiming and did not notify a change of circumstances for around about three years. She admitted three offences in failing to disclose that she was living with her partner between July 2014 and November 2017. She used the extra money to pay debts and household bills and they were not living a lavish lifestyle. It is thought that she has suggested how this can be repaid.

The judge is believed to have thought that a prison sentence would have a catastrophic effect on the children, but it had been a very close thing. She was given an eight-month suspended sentence, 150 hours unpaid work and 15 days rehabilitation at Grimsby Crown Court.
