‘Sound the Alarm for Climate Change’ in Doncaster

Leaders from organisations and agencies across the borough gathered today to sign a ‘Sound the Alarm for Climate Change’ pledge

The rally took outside the council offices in Sir Nigel Gresley Square.  Due to begin at 11am, crowds started gathering earlier.  School children, council staff, trade unions and Team Doncaster partners were among those who gathered to raise awareness of climate change and biodiversity impact.

The children, who came from various local schools, have been designing posters and signs in recent weeks.  Many came along with these.  They even managed to get on stage at one point (after an invitation!).  The Council had previously suggested that headteachers should “sound the alarm in school” at 11am in support.  It also encouraged them to appoint climate change leaders.

Speakers at the rally included Mayor Ros James; Ed Milliband, MP for Doncaster North; Damian Allen, CEO of Team Doncaster; and Alannah White, member of the Youth Parliament for Doncaster.

Mary Vickers moved to North East Lincolnshire in 2010, from the Wiltshire/Hampshire border, to become Urban and Industrial Chaplain NELincs. Made redundant in 2017, she's maintained many of her connections within the business, faith, and other local communities. She's also decided to stay here rather than return to either the south or her husband's native Yorkshire, so that she can continue to enjoy and help promote the positives of NELincs.
