Final hurdle cleared for Docks Beers performance venue

The brewery and taproom in Grimsby’s King Edward Street has just had the funding confirmed to convert its first floor into a 200 seat venue.

The live performance venue will be created from what is currently an empty space used for storage. The company plans to transform the first floor into a “cultural hub” for for comedy, music, theatre, exhibitions, and significant cultural events.

Announcing the good news at a Grimbarians event on Friday, director Will Douglas said:

If we can ally really great arts & culture with really great beer then it’ll be a tremendous opportunity for the town and for the artists we can bring here.

It’s been an exciting year for the Grimsby-based brewery. Having converted the old St Barnabas Church, Docks Beers began production at the King Edward Street in August 2018. The taproom doors were opened to the public in October. Having shared the vision for the entertainment venue in February 2019, change of use planning permission was granted in April. It is hoped that people will be able to view the new performance venue in December, and that events can begin early in the New Year.
