Nina Stobart from Grimsby wins trophy for Yorkshire & the Humber region at National Apprenticeship Awards
19th September 2019

Nina Stobart, HR Manager at Phillips 66 Ltd, has been crowned Royal Air Force Award for Apprenticeship Champion of the Year. The ceremony took place at the Leeds Marriott on Thursday.

Now in their 16th year, the National Apprenticeship Awards showcase the diverse and growing range of sectors engaged with apprenticeships, whilst celebrating the achievements of outstanding apprentices, apprentice employers and individuals to inspire others to follow in their footsteps and champion apprenticeships across England.

Education outreach is a passion for Nina, who set up the education outreach team at Phillips 66 Ltd. The team ensures everything they do is sustainable and aligned with STEM – and their primary school junior apprentice programmes help start students’ journeys into the world of work and opportunities within the region.

She now goes through to the national final, which takes place in London on 27th November.

Nina Stobart, Philips 66 UK, external communications and government affairs:

“I am humbled and honoured to win this award today. I do things in life for passion – supporting apprentices and working with them is one of them, it’s priceless. It’s an honour to be a part of someone’s development and to see them go on and inspire others is just brilliant.

“Apprenticeships give organisations the right skills and opportunities to train them how they want to. People need to talk about apprenticeships more, and in a positive way because they are a winning route to a fantastic career.

“My experience of being an apprenticeship champion is wonderful. Working in a region where we have hundreds of schools, councils and business who all have a passion for apprenticeships means we can work together to make a real difference to people’s lives. I am passionate about my work because everyone should have an opportunity to realise their dream.”

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson said: “Huge congratulations to all of the regional winners. Apprenticeships change lives, improve businesses and support local communities, so it’s great to see such a diverse range of employers and apprentices being recognised for their great work. I wish them all the best of luck for the final award ceremony in November.”
