Port Operative ABP (Southampton)
- From £22,000 to £23,500 per annum + excellent company benefits
The Role: Stevedore – cargo lasher/driver
Purpose:
To provide an effective and efficient port cargo operation. Delivered to specific customer requirements and in line with Company quality processes.
Accountabilities:
·Vehicle driving and other duties associated with vessel loading / discharge operations, including lashing of cargo.
·Managing and control of cargo within the Checker’s operation.
·Monitoring and maintaining work practices with particular focus on Health & Safety.
·Be flexible always to suit challenging operational requirements.
·Ensure customer and manufacturers requirements are maintained on both quality and standards.
·Support and maintain a high level of communication between yourself the customer and your superiors.
·Support your Asst. / Shift Supervisor and the Management Team in achieving operational key performance indicators.
·Demonstrate a clear understanding of procedures in relation to the receiving, release, shipment of cargo and control of compound / quayside stocks as required by ABP Stevedores and its customers.
·Be flexible to work in all aspects of the Port of Southampton and any other location, within a 10 mile radius of the Port.
·Any other duties that may be deemed within your capabilities and commensurate with your role.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Full and clean driving licence.
- Flexible approach to work due to annualised hours working arrangements.
- Computer Literate – excel and word.
- Previous experience within a manual based role.
Ideal
- Vehicle Handling.
- Mooring Vessels.
- Fork Lift Truck Driving.
- Able to interact with Delivery Drivers and provide a professional service on behalf of ABP Stevedores and its customers.
- Able to understand and complete Stock Reports for Management and customers, providing cargo information to operational staff as required.
