Calling all parents, there’s a new anti-hero on the (very much local) block, and his name’s Dave. Dave Spud.
CITV’s latest animation series ‘The Rubbish World of Dave Spud’ is not only grimly entertaining because of Dave’s grey, grim expression, his grim-faced gran’s constant flatulence from eating dubious-looking tinned goods, nor the grim goings on he finds himself catapulted into every episode (finding out your girlfriend is actually a toilet-brush from another planet is normal – right?).
Oh, and I forgot to mention where he lives…..
Grimsby.
Well, Grimsby Heights, Grimsby, to be specific.
Created and directed by Edward Foster, these little 11 minute gems see all sorts of escapades in and around Grimsby be it at the Docks, ‘Grimsby High’ school or even just having a fish supper.
With a stellar voice cast featuring Johnny Vegas as Dave, Jane Horrocks as Gran Spud, Arthur Smith as dad George Spud and Philip Glenister brilliantly cast as mum Betty Spud, it’s no wonder the series has been a hit with parents and children alike.
With Basement Jaxx providing the anthem-like soundtrack, what more reason do you need in this miserable weather to get on the sofa with the kids and watch some brilliant ‘rubbish’.
