By Statement From South Yorkshire police on looting.
We would like to offer some reassurance to local residents of Bentley regarding the recent rumours spreading around the village that the area is being targeted for crime due to the flooding in the village.
This is not a message that is supported by South Yorkshire Police.
We have reviewed crime figures for the area during this period and reported crime has not shown an increase, the flooding does not appear to be a factor in the crimes that have been recorded but this is a situation we will continue to monitor and respond to should the situation change.
Please be vigilant and continue to report any suspicious activity you witness in Bentley during this difficult time but do not be alarmed by rumours of increased crime in the area.
South Yorkshire Police and our partners will continue to offer any support that we can and will be remaining in the area.
