North East Lincolnshire Council, in partnership with St Andrew’s Hospice, is inviting people to share their Christmas wishes on the town’s Tree of Love.
The Christmas tree, which was put up in The Bullring in Grimsby town centre on 13 November, will be illuminated at the annual Christmas lights switch-on on Thursday 21 November.
But this year will be a little different. St Andrew’s Hospice representatives will be attending the event and will also be standing with the tree on Friday and Saturday lunchtimes where people are invited to make a donation to the hospice for a heart to put on the ‘Tree of Love’.
A North East Lincolnshire Council spokesperson said: “The Christmas tree has become a familiar sight in Grimsby town centre and the Grimsby Christmas Lights Switch On event officially kick starts the festivities – but we wanted to do something a little different with the tree this year.
“This year, you’ll be able to decorate your very own heart and include a Christmas message for someone you hold dear. All decorations will then be hung onto the tree for everyone to see, so you can show your friends and family.”
Alison Lark, fundraising and events co-ordinator at St Andrew’s Hospice, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in Grimsby’s Christmas celebrations again this year, as this town means so much to us.
“We really wanted to do something special in our 40th anniversary year, and the Tree of Love seems like a fantastic way for people to share their Christmas wishes and festive cheer with one another.”
Our Big Picture will also be doing Art in the Market at Top Town Market on Saturday 15 November for anyone wanting to get involved with some crafting and decorating of hearts to put on the tree.
