Indecent assault charge casts further cloud over Lincoln Cathedral

Another indecent assault charge looms of the Cathedral as it’s chancellor has been charged with a historic incident.

The Rev Canon Dr Paul Overend, has been charged by police in South Wales for an offence he is alleged to have committed in 1997.

Rev Overend, of Vicars Court, Lincoln, is due to appear before Magistrate’s Courts at Cardiff on 4 December. It is understood he stood down from his post in April of this year, around the same time the Dean of Lincoln Cathedral, the Very Rev Christine Wilson, took an unspecified leave of absence for reasons of a personal nature, and shortly after the Bishop of Lincoln, Christopher Lowson, was then suspended in connection to an inquiry into child safeguarding.

We will continue to update on events as they unfold.
