Plans submitted to demolish Scunthorpe Market

North Lincolnshire Council has now submitted plans to demolish the former Scunthorpe Market.

The historic market, which dates back to 1906, was closed in March 2019 and stall holders moved to the new St. John’s Market next to the bus station.

The demolition plans include both the old hall and the newer food hall which opened in 1972 but and electricity sub-station on the site will remain.

The application states the buildings are no longer in used and have fallen itno disrepair. A method statement for demolition says it will commence with the construction of the new entrance and installation of the site compound at the north west area of the site adjacent to the newly formed access point off Winterton Road. The perimeter of the site will then be secured using steel hoarding as per the contract specification with warning signs displayed at regular intervals. All fencing erected would be managed as temporary works and inspected accordingly.

The plans state the demolition would be complete by 13th March 2020, no further details have been revealed as tothe future use of the site.
