Man attacked with axe

A man wielding an axe inflicted gruesome injuries to his victim – almost severing his fingers and breaking his thigh bone.

The incident occurred on 25 July this year when the victim was at a friends house when Thomas Swatman, of Shaftesbury Avenue, Hull, arrived and a fight between the two broke out. Swatman left, but subsequently returned to the address with an axe which he swung at his victim inflicting the injuries.

The victim ultimately needed plastic surgery to repair his fingers which were almost cut clean off in th attack.

Swatman initially denied the attack when questioned, but subsequently a plea of unlawful wounding.

He was jailed for three years and eight months.
