Murder investigation launched in Doncaster

Police have today named a man following the discovery of a body in Doncaster.

Officers discovered the body of a 51-year-old man inside a property on Craganour Place at around 9.45am yesterday, Sunday 15 December, after receiving calls of concern for the occupant’s welfare.

The man has been named as Jerry Appicella.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Simon Palmer said: “We have launched a murder investigation following the death of Doncaster man Jerry Appicella.

“People living in the Denaby Main area will have today seen an increase in police presence while officers carry out enquiries.

“A cordon remains at the property and this evening officers will be carrying out extra patrols.

“We believe Mr Appicella was involved in an Incident prior to his death on Tuesday 3 December near to the Go Local Shop in Hickleton Street, Denaby. We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this or was in the area at the time.

“I would like to offer my reassurance to the public that this was a targeted attack and we do not believe there to be a risk to the wider community.”
