Petition started for justice for Bella the German Shepherd.

Bella was appallingly hauled into the River Trent and heartbreakingly weighed down with a rock to her lead.

Shena Fairless of South Killingholme has launched a petition to bring Bella’s abusers to justice. Shena runs an animal sanctuary and is the carer of 10 dogs some of who have been subjected to unbelievable cruelty.

She believes that people treat animals as commodities and dispose of them like yesterday’s newspaper and that there is no proper justice.

Jane Harper was walking along the River Trent in Nottinghamshire when she spotted a dog in the water. She jumped in and initially thought the dog was dead but the saw her eyes blinking under the water. She then realised that the dog had been weighed down by a large rock.

Luckily another woman came and helped Jane pull her out of the water. The dog was taken to a nearby vet for urgent treatment. Her name had been recorded on a microchip as Bella.

Shena is hoping to get 100,000 signatures so that she can deliver it to Downing Street. The petition wants the laws to be tougher and jail sentences for people who abuse animals. Police have arrested a man32, and a woman,31 on suspicion of animal cruelty.

It is believed that Bella is still quite poorly but she is showing some encouraging signs and is eating so hopefully she will soon be on the mend thanks to her rescuers. The petition can be found at change.org Justice For Bella.
