The reason why you should always fill your fuel tank to the top.
There has been a warning issued to motorists that if they fail to fill their fuel tanks to the top it could cause their car to suddenly breakdown while driving over 70mph.
If motorists only put a certain amount of petrol in their car it can cause the engine to become clogged up and eventually block. Which could lead to the vehicle suddenly seizing while on the motorway.
A reader of the Express told of how she had a dramatic incident on the motorway. She admitted that she only put £20 of petrol in each time she refuelled her car.
But this caused the damage to the car’s fuel filler. It became clogged with sediments that fell to the bottom of the tank. It caused her vehicle to cut out while she was travelling 70mph on a motorway in a terrifying incident.
She managed to move the car over to the hard shoulder and stop safely. But it is an example of how a common mistake can lead to catastrophe.
Motorists are being warned to never drive their vehicle on a low tank or fumes and always make sure they have good quality petrol in their tank. The cold weather makes it even more important that cars are topped up with a substantial amount of fuel at all times.
