Sgt John Rickells has been commended for his part in a dangerous 130mph pursuit of a gang of cash machine thieves. He has been praised by top police officers for leading the pursuit of a violent gang and preventing danger to the public in a 130mph chase. Rays from a laser pen repeatedly tried to blind the driver of the leading police car being driven by Sgt John Rickells.  The gang also threw bricks a jerry can and a circular saw at the police car.  A member of the gang used a wrench to smash the police car’s windscreen. The hair raising scene was captured on dashcam.

Four people were jailed for a total of 17 years for using a JCB to steal an ATM from a shop in Holton-Le-Clay on October 11th last year. Because of the heroic actions of the officers of Humberside and Lincolnshire Police, the money was recovered. The citation from Humberside Police Chief Constable Lee Freeman said For your dedication and professionalism when involved in a dangerous pursuit. The head of specialist operations said all of the officers showed huge bravery in bringing these violent criminals to justice.
