Frequently referred to as the ‘patchwork road’, North East Lincolnshire Council is to begin resurfacing Fieldhouse Road in Humberston. Fieldhouse Road has been dubbed the “most dangerous road in the borough” by Councillor Fenty.
Many locals felt that the condition of the road was dangerous, and was causing disruption to road users and residents.
One resident claimed the damage from the road had begun to affect the condition of her home.
Councillor Fenty has said that he feels”if it was a bus route it would have been repaired by now.”
“But all these residents pay council tax and just want their bins collected on time and roads repaired.”
Works will occur between the junction of Midfield Road and will finish at Lidgard Road.
Following initial delays from the original repairs which were expected in 2018, Fieldhouse Road was not due to be repaired until 2022. However, following the rapid influx in complaints and a petition signed by over 500 angry local residents, works will commence on Monday the 2nd of March.
Councillor Fenty has said the fact that Fieldhouse ‘Patchwork’ road is finally to be resurfaced is a reflection of the resident’s anger, and that their efforts were a result of their genuine concerns and anxieties.
The petition stated the road “is dangerous because cars are thrown off course as they navigate the narrow space that often occurs when cars are parked on either side of the road.”
Improvements will include the replacement of damaged drain covers and kerbs, and carriageway resurfacing.
The road will remain open to vehicles and pedestrians between the 2nd and 20th of March. However, Fieldhouse Road will be closed to vehicles for five days, starting on the 23rd of March. During the time that it is being resurfaced, Fieldhouse Road will be accessible via North Sea Lane.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.
Advanced warning signs will be in place and those affected will receive a letter detailing the works.
