Body found on Westcliff estate

Police have issued a statement after the body of a man was found dead in a house on the Westcliff estate, Scunthorpe.

Officers were called to a property on Selby Court on Thursday following calls from several other members of the community.

A man’s body was subsequently discovered inside the property.

Initial inquiries have now been carried out by police into the death of the man. He has not yet been named.

Neighbours described the resident as a middle-aged man. Some have spoken of their shock:

One resident said that “he was friendly but very much kept himself to himself. I used to see him and his partner a lot.”

Another said that “knowing that someone has died so nearby is harrowing.”

His death was initially treated as “unexplained” however officers for Humberside Police have now confirmed that the death is not thought to be suspicious. In their statement, they have stated that:

“Officers were called to an address on Selby Court in Scunthorpe at 2.10pm on Thursday, February 27 following reports of concern for the safety of a man in the property. A man was sadly found dead inside the address. Initial inquiries have been carried out and the circumstances of his death are not thought to be suspicious.”

After the discovery of the body found on the Westcliff estate, the property was cordoned off throughout Friday and into the weekend as investigating officers sought to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the man’s death. A blue tent was set up outside the front door as officers worked at the scene.
