Overnight raid at Yarborough Road Spar

Overnight raid at Yarborough Road Spar

Humberside Police investigate following a suspected break-in and theft at the Spar shop on Yarborough Road

Officers from Humberside Police are at the Spar shop on Yarborough Road after it was raided overnight.

The exact details are, at present, unclear. However, it is understood that a concrete bollard was removed and shutters were damaged before three people made their way into the shop. The front door has also been smashed, and stock has been scattered across the floor.

Detectives from Humberside Police are currently at the scene gathering evidence. Staff have been asked to leave the premises and are currently sat in their cars while detectives and crime scene officers investigate.

An initial report from a local resident said “The cash machine is directly opposite the front door. I’ve heard that’s what they’ve raided.”

The overnight raid at Yarborough Road Spar has caused traffic congestion on Yarborough Road.

One local resident said that although they had witnessed similar raids following incidents of theft, this was the most extreme case they had seen so far:

“It’s really scary being that close to your door.”

Another, who has witnessed the entire incident so far, stated that:

“It was either a silver or white pickup truck, like a Ford Thunder, that pulled the bollard out. It woke me up. They noticed my window was open so I looked away, but I heard them at it for another five minutes before they drove down the road. The police came a few minutes later. I heard something heavy being dragged so I had a feeling the cash machine was stolen.”
