Updates on arson attacks in Peterborough

According to an update from Cambridgeshire Police, seven men have been arrested, and three charged in connection with disorder believed to be linked to several arson attacks in the centre of Peterborough since Friday.

In total, there were six arsons over a four day period which were said to be “targeted” attacks.

The arsons on vehicles and properties were in the Eastfield, New England and Millfield areas.

This prompted police to put in place a section 60 order from 20:00 on Tuesday night until 20:00 on Thursday. This order gave officers more powers to search people and vehicles under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

As part of their investigation Cambridgeshire Police arrested seven people last night in Eastfield Road.

A 34-year-old man remains in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station, and two women aged 28 and 29, as well as a 26-year-old man, have all been released under investigation.

Three men, all from Eastfield, were arrested and charged in the early hours of Wednesday morning following reports of violence and criminal damage in Orchard Street, Eastfield.

The details of chose charged are as follows:

Tomasz Delatowski, 37, of Swan Gardens has been charged with five counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and conspiracy to commit violent disorder.

Olaf Sonta, 32, of Cobbet Place has been charged with four counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and conspiracy to commit violent disorder.

Adrian Surmacki, 21, of Eastfield Road has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

All three men have been remanded in custody and are due to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court today.
