A second student at Oxford University has tested positive for Coronavirus.

The University of Oxford has said it will remain open despite a second student testing positive for Coronavirus.

Neither the students identity nor details on their condition have been released.

It has been said that Public Health England officials are assessing the student and anyone who has had recent close contact with them. The university said it will take advice from Public Health England on whether it needs to take “further precautions”.

A spokesperson said:

“Our priority is providing support for affected students and their families, as well as offering support and information to other university staff, students, visitors and the local community.

Public Health England is currently assessing the individual and contacting those who had close contact with the students and will issue them with health advice about symptoms and emergency contact details to use if they become unwell in the 14 days after contact with the confirmed case.”

Around 24,000 students currently attend the University of Oxford.

Katherine Tyson, district councillor for Kidlington West, has accused the university of “negligence” for not closing. She said that the university is “putting students’ lives in danger”.

On the 8th of March, Oxford University announced that a second student had tested positive for Coronavirus after travelling abroad. They are said to have contracted the virus through another person based in the UK, but that that person does not attend the same university.
