Teenager in court after violent assault
After a violent assault where an 85-year-old woman was left in critical-condition, a teenage boy has appeared at Grimsby Magistrates Court.
The 13-year-old boy, who cannot be named because of his age, stood in a secure glass-fronted dock. He was charged in connection with the incident that just after 18:00 on Tuesday, outside the victims home on Haile Road, Humberston.
The 85-year-old woman was left in a critical condition after she pushed over.
The boy, who spoke only to confirm his details and that he understood the proceedings, was was barely tall enough to see over the wood-panelled section of the dock. He had dark brown hair, and was wearing a black, sweatshirt with grey trousers and black shoes.
The defendant indicated no plea to the charge of wounding the pensioner with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He was accompanied by a dock custody officer, while his father and grandmother waited in the public gallery.
The hearing lasted 10–minutes, and the
case was adjourned until Wednesday at Grimsby Youth Court when it will be decided whether the case should stay there or go to Grimsby Crown Court.
The boy has now been remanded into the care of the local authority, with conditions that he lives where directed and complies with bail supervision arrangements.
Two police representatives were also in court for the hearing.
Prosecutor Martin Howarth claimed that three youths gathered outside the 85-year-old’s house making a nuisance of themselves and tormenting her.
It is alleged that she was then pushed to the ground, causing a serious head injury.
