The UK government have outlined a brief plan as to what will happen if Prime Minister Boris Johnson is diagnosed with Covid-19.

Increasingly, the Prime Minister is already holding meetings via video link to safeguard against this scenario.

However, the PM’s spokesperson has announced that in the event that Mr Johnson contracts coronavirus, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab will take his place.

It has been confirmed that Tuesday’s cabinet meeting will also go ahead mostly by video conference, with ministers dialling in instead of piling round a cramped table as part of social distancing measures.

Downing Street have now confirmed that the UK’s top civil servant in the EU trade negotiations, David Frost, is now self-isolating after showing symptoms of the virus.

Meanwhile, Mr Johnson’s spokesman has signalled that self-employed people would get more assistance, after being left out of the original round of financial measures.

“We appreciate the difficulty they are in and officials are working round the clock,” he told journalists at a briefing on Monday.

The Prime Minister is expected to issue updates at 20:30.
