Violent offender arrested in Grimsby after returning to UK
A violent offender has been arrested in Grimsby and recalled to prison after breaching the terms of his release and returning to the UK.
Vincas Baltrusaitis, 32, has been recalled to prison to serve the remaining seven-years of his sentence.
Baltrusaitis, from Lithuania, was sentenced in 2011 to 14 years in jail at York Crown Court after he and a co-defendant pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm of another man in Selby in October 2011.
He was released from prison in 2017 when he qualified for the Early Removal Scheme and was deported back to Lithuania.
This was conditional on the agreement that he could not re-enter the UK until December 2024, which is when his full prison sentence would have been served.
However, Humberside Police received a tip-off that Baltrusaitis had re-entered the UK using false identity documentation, breaching the conditions of his release.
He was arrested on Thursday the 26th of March, after he was seen driving a vehicle under false documentation on Bentley Street, Grimsby.
He has now appeared at Grimsby Magistrates Court and immediately been recalled to prison to serve the remaining seven-years of his sentence.
Darren Wilbore, Area Commander Chief Superintendent for Humberside Police, said:
“Vincas Baltrusaitis is an organised, high-level criminal who chose to ignore the opportunity he was given to start an honest life back home following his release from jail.
He now has the remainder of his sentence to consider the consequences for his decision.
I hope that this serves as a clear warning to anyone else thinking that they can get round the criminal justice system.
You will not succeed and you will be arrested!”
