Drug driving arrest in Swindon
A man in his 40s was arrested in Swindon today on suspicion of drug driving.
Officers spotted the vehicle at approximately 1.20pm today being driven along Marlborough Road and approaching the BP garage. Having spotted the police vehicle, the driver diverted and drove off along Queens Drive.
The vehicle was seen to be driven in a suspicious manner and when the vehicle stopped in Guildford Avenue, officers for Wiltshire Police approached the driver and a drug swipe was conducted.
He was taken to Gablecross Custody for further questioning and has since been released under investigation while further enquiries are conducted.
PC Luke Hobbs said:
“Driving while under the influence of drugs is not only illegal but it is hugely irresponsible – your ability to drive is seriously impacted and you could cause serious injury or worse to yourself, other road users and pedestrians.
We continue to target individuals who get behind the wheel of a car having consumed alcohol or illegal drugs.
If you suspect someone of drink or drug driving, please call 101 or 999 in an emergency, and give as much detail as possible including direction of travel and registration number where possible.”
Authorities have said that criminals should be aware that the police will continue to prosecute them even while the UK is under a state of lockdown, and that their priorities have not changed.
