What do you miss most about life pre-lockdown?
Last week, we asked our readers what they have missed the most since the UK went into lockdown, and what they have planned once normality resumes.
Overwhelmingly, readers reported that they missed being able to visit their family and friends. Several had new additions to the family who had been born since the outbreak:
“We’ve missed seeing our four lovely grandsons, and our week old gorgeous granddaughter who we haven’t had the opportunity to meet yet! We are planning a massive party in our garden for all our lovely family.”
With the sport halted indefinitely, the second most missed thing about life pre-lockdown appeared to be football, with readers saying:
“I miss the smell of burgers and onions, shuffling through the turnstiles, the view of players warming up on the pitch opens. I miss the anticipation in my guts. Good god, I miss everything.”
“I miss the excitement of being able to detach from reality for a couple of hours that football provides, of having something other than the lockdown to talking about. But mostly, I miss the sense of community.”
Some expressed a desire to repay the people who had shown care and concern for them through the crisis, or sharing heartwarming stories of strangers and neighbours bringing them supplies, or offering elderly or lonely people support via the telephone.
Others reported missing the small things, that we so often take for granted, but which impact our lives in a big way:
“Seeing new releases at the cinema!”
“I’ve missed the little things, like a McDonalds breakfast on payday!”
“A trip to the garden centre.”
“Browsing in the shops, even when I knew I couldn’t afford to buy anything. I just miss the freedom of movement.”
