Cleethorpes man jailed after A180 police chase

Lloyd McDonald, 32, of Barcroft Street, Cleethorpes has been jailed after he led police on a chase up the A180, following a series of dangerous driving offences.

McDonald was caught driving, at high speed, the wrong direction up the A180, over grass and through metal fencing.

Grimsby Crown Court were told how police at the Pyewipe Road roundabout had spotted McDonald exiting the Shell garage slip road, facing the wrong way, in a Landrover Freelander at 09:55am.

Police alerted him to stop, but he ignored them, continuing and increasing his speed.

After a chase in which police had to burst one of his tyres, the reckless driver was caught.

He was arrested at 10:05am. Tests for drugs and alcohol proved negative.

McDonald admitted to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and having no insurance on March 18.

He has an existing record of five previous dangerous driving offences, three for aggravated vehicle taking, and convictions for at least 68 previous other offences.

In April 2018, he was jailed for 22 months and banned from driving for three years and seven months for dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, having no insurance and failing to stop after an accident.

On that occasion, he was also arrested following a dangerous police chase.

Richard Hackfath, mitigating, said that no injuries were caused and the damage was relatively minor.

It is alleged that McDonald has been suffering from medical problems and has not been taking his medication properly.

He told the court: “I am sorry for what I have done.”

McDonald has now been jailed for 18 months and banned from driving for five years and nine months.
