Key workers Andy Ashmore and his partner have had their windows smashed in a mindless attack on their cars, which were parked on Cromwell Avenue, Grimsby.

Mr Ashmore and his partner both work for local charity, Care4All, providing assisted living care and accommodation to people with disabilities in the community.

At around 21:00 on Monday evening, a neighbour came alerted the couple that someone had attacked both of their cars.

They went outside to find that a brick had been thrown into the windscreens of both vehicles.

Speaking to Gi Media, Mr Ashmore said:

“We have never had anything like this happen down here before, Cromwell Avenue has alway been a good place to live.

“I can’t fathom who would have did this, because there were 15 to 20 other cars parked there and they haven’t been touched.

“Myself and my partner are already working around the clock to provide care whilst juggling childcare. This was the last thing that we needed.

“This is going to have a knock on effect to our work whilst we wait for the cars to be repaired, along with the obvious financial implications.

“But, we are resilient and are trained to deal with unpredictable and challenging situations. This will not stop us and we will continue to ensure we continue to provide the best care we can, walking to and from work if we have to.”

Mr Ashmore says that because of the vandalism, the couple will now have to walk to work until their cars are repaired, and due to the lockdown they do not know when that will be.

However, he added that regardless of this attack, the coronavirus pandemic had shown him the beauty of Grimsby’s community spirit.

Humberside Police have been made aware of the situation, but are not commenting at this time.

If anyone has any information regarding the incident they are being asked to call police on non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number 16/46437/20.
