Grimsby charity receives cash donation
Local charity Grimsby and Cleethorpes Area Doorstep are set to receive a cash donation of £500 after being chosen by members of the local community as the worthiest cause.
Grimsby and Cleethorpes Area Doorstep provides accommodation and support to young people and young families, aged 16 to 25 years old, who are experiencing homelessness within North East Lincolnshire.
Jack’s Supermarket, part of the Tesco family, launched it’s ‘Jack’s Supports’ scheme to donate proceeds from the sale of carrier bags to local good causes voted for by its customers.
Over the past three months, shoppers at Jack’s Immingham store ahve been voting for worthy cause.
Grimsby and Cleethorpes Area Doorstep received 32% of the vote, securing themselves a donation.
Sonia Whitehead, Centre Co-ordinator at Grimsby & Cleethorpes Area Doorstep, said:
“Our new family accommodation project aims to support vulnerable new parents who might otherwise need an intervention from children and family services.
“By providing tailored, safe and secure housing and support, we can work with young parents at the start of their family life to enable them to continue successfully into the future.
“We are grateful to Jack’s and to the public for voting for this project; the young families have told us they would like to create a garden space for them to enjoy with their children.”
Dave Peck, Jack’s Immingham store manager, said:
“We launched Jack’s Supports to give something back to the local communities that have supported us since our launch. Each of the charities involved in the scheme do fantastic work in the local area, and we’re delighted that we are in a position to be able to offer our support.”
He added that although the voting stations have had to be removed due to the coronavirus crisis, charities will not miss out on contributions during this crucial period.
As such, Jack’s will donate an additional £250 to each charity due to participate in this round of the scheme, including the 1st Habrough Rainbows, AEDdonate, CARE (Immingham Access point) and MS Society Grimsby & Cleethorpes.
Grimsby Ancient Mariners Walking Football Club, Lincolnshire lowland Search and Rescue, and Queen Mary Avenue Infant and Nursery School will also receive £250 each.
