North East Lincolnshire Council have confirmed that there will be no change to waste collections over the VE Day bank holiday.

Household waste and recycling services are expected to continue as normal and without disruption.

Collections of rubbish and recycling will take place as usual on Friday 8 May.

Households should leave their bins out for collection by 7am and make sure they are clear of obstacles such as parked vehicles.

Bin crews are collecting between 20 and 50 per cent more household waste and recycling than they usually do at this time of year.

This is in part due to the closure of local waste and recycling centres.

According to data released by the council, bin crews collected 200 tonnes more household waste and recycling in the first three weeks of the lockdown compared to the same period last year.

A spokesperson for the council said:

“Bin crews are key workers and they’ve been overwhelmed by the support from the public as they pull out all the stops to keep up with the extra demand without disruption to rounds.”
