If you need to do any shopping today, then you will need to be aware that supermarkets across the nation have altered their opening hours.

In addition to today being VE Day, it is also the early May bank holiday.

Major retailers including Aldi, Lidl, Asda and Sainsbury’s are all affected.

Aldi will be operating on slightly reduced hours on Friday, May 8 but the rest of the weekend is expected to be as normal. Today, they will be open from 8am – 8pm.

The majority of Lidl stores will also be open from 8am to 8pm.

Asda stores are expected to be open between 8am and 8pm this Friday, May 8.

Asda is then expected to trade between 8am and 10pm on Saturday and between 10am and 4pm on Sunday (May 9).

The vast majority of Sainsbury’s supermarkets are normally open from 8am to 10pm.

This Friday (May 8), they will be open from 8am to 8pm.

The majority of Waitrose stores will be open normal hours on Friday, May 8, with Little Waitrose shops opening from 7am to 10pm.

On both Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, most Waitrose & Partners shops are expected to trade normal hours.

Tesco and Iceland stores appear to be operating as usual.

In light of the changes made to supermarket opening hours for VE Day and the May bank holiday, people are advised to double check with their local stores before visiting.
