A18 closed by police after collision with tree

The A18 was temporarily closed by police earlier after a driver heading towards Scunthorpe left the road and collided with a tree.

Emergency services were called to the scene where a car had been overturned on the A18 this afternoon.

The vehicle, which was heading towards Scunthorpe, ended up on its roof following the collision with a tree. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The crash on the A18 near Scawby happened early this afternoon.

The road has now been reopened following the incident.

The road was closed for several hours between the Scawby and Castlethorpe junctions as police attended the scene. It reopened around 4pm.

The extent of the drivers’ injuries aren’t known, however a spokesperson for Humber Roads Police have said that things could have easily been worse.

Humber Roads Police tweeted:

“Single vehicle collision today Broughton/Scawby, A18, North Lincolnshire.

“Driver has come off the road hitting a tree in the process.

“Driver very lucky not to have more serious injuries.”
