Updates as Cleethorpe Road is closed due to a fire

Here are the latest updates, as Cleethorpe Road is closed due to a fire at the same location where officers for Humberside Police discovered a cannabis factory earlier this week.

Cleethorpe Road in Grimsby has been closed as emergency services attend a major fire at a property on the Riby Square junction.

Fire crews were called after a fire started in a building along the roadside.

They have been on the scene since around 13:45, and are using a hydraulic platform to help tackle the blaze.

They have also entered the building.

A witness has alleged that the building of the roof has collapsed

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area as firefighters work to extinguish the blaze.

This comes as police uncovered a cannabis factory inside a flat at the same location earlier this week.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said:

“Officers were on patrol in the area when they saw smoke coming from the building and raised the alarm at around 1.19pm.

“They are currently at the scene assisting the fire service and road closures have been put in place on Grimsby Road, Cleethorpe Road and Freeman Street.”

At least two fire engines have been sent to the scene.

Cleethorpe Road has been closed at the A180 flyover while the incident takes place.

It is thought that firefighters now have the fire under control, but the road is expected to be closed for hours.
