Man tries to set fire to petrol pump at a Grimsby Esso garage
Humberside Police are investigating an incident where a man attempted to set fire to a petrol pump at an Esso garage on Albion Street, Grimsby.
The incident occurred just after midnight, in front of shocked passers-by.
Humberside Police were called to the Esso garage on Albion Street in Grimsby at 12.45am on Wednesday after receiving reports of a man acting suspiciously outside the petrol station.
A witness at the scene said that the man had been exhibiting aggressive behaviour outside the petrol station for a few minutes.
He is then alleged to have approached one of the pumps, taking out a lighter and trying to set it on fire, before being stopped by people in the area.
Officers are understood to have arrived quickly, and arrested the man on the scene on suspicion of attempted arson.
A Humberside Police spokesperson said:
“A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted arson following an incident in Albion Street, Grimsby, this morning.
“We were called at 12.45am today following reports of a man behaving erratically on a petrol station forecourt.
“Nothing was set alight and no one was injured as a result of the incident.
“A man was arrested at the scene and remains in our custody, assisting us with our enquiries.
